Scholarship Winners of 2025!
We can provide funds to the Scholarship Winners each year thanks to the generous donations from our alumni Members. We want to thank each one of you who funded the scholarships: Dr. Brad Ashburn Class of 1999, Brian Bucher Class of 1983, Dr. George Parrott Class of 1961, Stephen Pohlmeyer Class of 2000, Nancy Flaherty (Rudd) Class of 1984, Jerry Tenney Class of 1966, Judy Weissberg (Ortiz) Class of 1967, and all who donated to the Rosie Tallerico Memorial Scholarship Fund. We cannot stress enough how important it is to send a “THANK YOU” to the donors of the scholarships.
Mariah Brown received the Brian Bucher Design Scholarship. Mariah is attending Shasta College with a 3.6 GPA, and she plans to graduate this Spring with her associate's degree in Sociology, Psychology, and Behavioral Sciences. She has been working in Shasta College's TRIO SSS as a Student Peer Mentor. She has been accepted at Chico State for the 2026 Fall semester and might have a job opportunity as a Chico State TRIO SSS Academic Coach.
Cindy Cheng received the Rosie Tallerico Memorial scholarship. Cindy is busy with work and school and trying to stay on top of everything. She has been making time to hang out with friends as much as she can. One of her goals for 2026 is to travel more, so she has been looking for opportunities to explore new places when she gets the chance to go.
Rhiannon (Ren) Crittendon received an Alumni Association Scholarship. Ren is going to Shasta College, studying Elementary Education. She is working as a paraprofessional in a TK classroom at Grand Oaks Elementary School.
Rose Evans received the Larry Stanfield Memorial Scholarship. Rose, we hope that she is doing well, as we have not heard from her since August.

Malia Laird received an Alumni Association Scholarship. Malia is doing amazing! She is taking another full semester at Shasta College. She is taking anatomy, personal finance, ethnic studies, and humanities. She plans to finish her science classes (microbiology and physiology) and get ready to apply to the nursing program for the 2027 semester. For the rest of 2026, she plans to travel around for a bit and to as many concerts as she can. She is currently working at Copper Ridge Care Facility, and she loves it. She loves the residents, her coworkers, and the facility.
Kenzie Lawhon received an Alumni Association Scholarship. Kenzie says that school is going well so far. She passed the first semester with all A’s. However, she made the big decision to switch her major to forensic psychology. She is doing well and is excited to see what the spring semester will offer.
Kylie Mason received the Randy Rudd Memorial Scholarship. Kylie, we hope that she is doing well, as we have heard from her since August.
Taylor Morris received the Weissberg Family Memorial Scholarship. Taylor, we hope that she is doing well, as we have not heard from her since August.

Angel Phan received the Harold and Julia Pohlmeyer Memorial Scholarship. Angel is just starting the Winter quarter at UC Davis. So, she is adjusting to a whole new schedule. She just started the General Chemistry course, so lab work and safety are a new adventure compared to high school labs. She ended up finishing six classes, a nineteen-credit schedule (but transcript-wise sixteen since three credits did not count toward graduation) quarter with a 3.96 GPA. Other than that, she has been making friends and exploring campus, meeting the locals, finding new places to shop, and heading to sports events to cheer on UCD. She is looking into housing for next year, jobs, and thinking about what to do over summer break: shadowing, internship, summer classes, etc. Perhaps soon she will join some clubs, but schedules are demanding, and clubs meet at weird times.
Jasmine Saechin received the George Parrott Valedictorian Scholarship. Jasmine is doing well! She has been busy. She plans to graduate with her associate degree in Psychology from Shasta College. She will be transferring to CSU Chico to finish her bachelor’s degree. She plans to do federal work study at Chico.

Please do not join the Central Valley High School Alumni Newsletter that you may receive via e-mail, as that is not a part of the Central Valley High School Alumni Association. We have asked them not to use our name. They continue to do so, but if we do not send them money, then maybe they will stop using “our” name. Also, Classmates does not help the school, and you can get the information from us at no cost to you, and your money would go to help the Central Valley High School students. We ask the permission of all our alumni before we give out their information to anyone. We would love for you to join the Alumni Association, as the money we raise goes to help the school, alumni, teachers, staff, and students.
The Alumni Association also has copies of several yearbooks from various years that we sell for $40.00 each, plus shipping and handling. We have all the yearbooks on USB drives and CDs from 1955 through 2024. We sell CDs and USB drives for $10.00 each, plus shipping and handling costs. We now have all the Class photos on a USB for sale. Thank you, Jean Naylor, for getting them done for us. Please check out the school’s website for more information.
Unfortunately, many of our classmates, teachers, and staff have died in the last year. If you know of someone who has died who is not on the Memorial Page, please let us know. If you see someone who is on the Memorial page who is still alive, let us know that, too!

Proud to be a Central Valley High School Alumni!
So Proud of our Central Valley High School Falcons! Central Valley High School gets a lot of criticism at times, but the results of some tests prove that.
What we have known all along! Our students are incredibly capable, and our staff is focused, dedicated, and hardworking.
For the CAASPP State Testing 2025. Central Valley High School ranked #1 in English Language Arts among comprehensive high schools in Shasta County and # 3 in Math!
The Science scores also increased by 17%! There is not enough state data yet to compare to other schools, but this growth shows the incredible effort and commitment of both our students and teachers.
Proud to be a Falcon – proof that perseverance and teamwork pay off!
Also, Central Valley High School has been recognized by the California Department of Education as a 2026 California Distinguished School. CVHS earned this honor in the Achievement Gap Closers category, recognizing schools that are making outstanding progress in supporting historically underserved students while maintaining strong achievement for all learners. This reward reflects the demanding work of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the support of our families and community.

Class of 2016’s Volleyball Tournament!
The Central Valley High School Gyms were busy on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Thanks to the efforts of Katana Martina. Katana got together eight teams to play volleyball to help raise funds for the Class of 2016's Reunion, which is planned for next year. With the help of the Central Valley High School Alumni Association and Boosters’ Club, Wylie Ernst (Hines) and Alex Delles (Lain), the tournament was a success. After expenses, the Class of 2016 should have enough money to pay for the expenses of their reunion start-up. Thank you, Katana, and everyone who showed up to help.
Congratulations to Ed Mann, Class of 1967!
Ed has authored a terrific book, Jungle Ghosts Walking Point in Vietnam. Ed was the point man for his B Company 1/12th Cavalry Division at LZ Grant. Ed gives a great portrayal of what it was like for most of the young men who served in Vietnam. If you like history. Ed gives an exceptionally enjoyable reading of a piece of his life and makes it interesting for all to read. Thank you, Ed, for telling it like it was for many of the Central Valley alumni who spent time in Vietnam. You can purchase the book at Barnes and Noble or Amazon.
Congratulations to Schuyler Lane, Class of 2006!
Schuyler and his wife, Alicia, opened the Bonus Room at 1665 Pine Street in Redding in February. They have various beers on tap and soft drinks to drink while you play old video games. On Fridays and Saturdays, they have various food trucks that sell hot foods to enjoy while you play old video games—all the best to the Lanes and Bonus Room.
Total number of Central Valley High School Graduates from 1959 to 2025:
