College & Career Planning Timeline
9th
Register for coursework that meets A-G Requirements and CTE Pathway completion.
Get involved in clubs and sports. Involvement looks great on Scholarships Applications and Job Resumes.
Monitor your grades via Aeries. Aim for B's or higher.
Talk to your teacher or counselor if you are having difficulties. We are here to help.
Log on to californiacolleges.edu. Your goal for this year is to have a general idea of what career you would like to pursue
Meet with your counselor in March to update your academic 4 year plan. Parents can access their student's plan on Aeries.
10th
Talk with your counselor if you received a D or F. You need to have C's or higher to be on track with A-G requirements.
Take the PSAT in October
Create a college board account in December.
You and your parents will meet with your counselor in March to update your academic 4 year plan and pre-register for next years courses.
11th
Take the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Exam in October
Start Researching Colleges. You will find many resources linked on the right side of this page.
Start Studying for the SAT and/or ACT during Winter Break
Take the SAT/ACT in the Spring/Early Summer- Continue studying throughout summer if you are not confident in your score
Meet with your counselor in March to update your academic 4 year plan and pre-register for next years courses.
12th
Re-Take the SAT/ACT in the fall, if needed.
Attend Senior Night in October
Complete your FAFSA application ASAP after October 1st
Complete your CSU and UC applications by November 30th
Complete Private College Applications based on individual deadlines
If you are attending Shasta College complete your Shasta College Orientation and meet with a Shasta College Counselor in February.
Create a Web Grants 4 Students account
At Central Valley High School, we are serious about preparing our students for life after high school. It is our hope that each and every one of our students graduate informed, with a plan and the skills to pursue it. To assist your student with planning, Counselors, our Career Center Technician/Upward Bound, GEAR-UP and ETS Advisors offer ACHIEVE sessions bi-monthly throughout the school year.
